The Swimming Pool was built in the 1960's with the participation of the six southern local authorities - Arbory, Rushen, Malew, Port Erin, Port St Mary and Castletown - and the Local Government Board (now DOLGE).
The representative of the Parish of Arbory on the Southern Swimming Pool Joint Board is Adrian Cowin.
The Secretary and Administrator of the Joint Board is Caroline Convery.
The Manager is Gary Hunter, the Assistant Manager is Carolyn Brown and there are four qualified lifeguards.
The Pool is financed partly by contributions from the six southern local authorities but now mainly by Central Government. The local authority contribution is capped at a 2.5 pence rate plus a proportion of loan charges. Arbory's contribution for the year 2008/9 is £4,908.
It is proposed in the recent new draft Local Government Bill that all responsibility for administration and financing the Southern Pool be removed from the local authorities and transferred to the Department of Tourism & Leisure. It is argued that this will give greater uniformity of service and control over all of the swimming pools on the Island and will make funds more readily available for anticipated major upgrading of the facilities. Indications are that this will not take place in the near future..
