General Rules and Regulations
The Southern Amenity Site is the green composting / recycling centre for the six parishes in the south of the Island.
The Boards policy is to recycle and reuse as much as possible.
You can make all the difference by sorting out the items you are discarding,
PLEASE ASK FOR ADVICE IF YOU NEED IT
Old clothes/shoes or material can be placed in either of the two clothes banks.
Rubble, ceramics, glass, newspapers, glossy magazine, catalogues, steel cans, aluminium cans, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, batteries, mobile phones, are all recyclable
Clean plastic bottles are now accepted at the Site –no tops and just bottles please.
Health and Safety
It is impossible to have notices covering all eventualities and it is everyone’s responsibility to be aware of the potential risks of using an Amenity Site and act accordingly to ensure their own safety and that of others
The Board is trying to serve the Local Community if you have any ideas regarding recycling then please contact the Clerk, Mrs A. Butler on 836202 (Monday-Friday)
Please do not leave items at the gate if the site is closed, this could lead to Prosecution
The Board reserves the right to ask local householders for a financial contribution if they bring heavy loads such as large DIY jobs, rubble, large roots, house or garden clearance, etc. (Cost £11-£32 plus VAT a tonne) -these loads can be weighed)

Composting and Recycling Centre
The Southern Amenity Site is the green composting / recycling centre paid for by the six parishes in the South of the Island. Our policy is to recycle and reuse as much as possible.
You can make all the difference by sorting items into similar types before your arrive at the Site
Items either go to the Energy from Waste plant, (EFWF) Landfill, Quarry or are recycled.
Examples of items not acceptable for the EFWF are: soil, plaster, plaster- board, Gas bottles, fibreglass, metals, hardcore, batteries, ceramics, glass asbestos. This list is not exhaustive.

Monday - Thursday 10.00am-400pm
Friday 10.00am-3.30pm
Sat. and Sunday 10.00am-4.30pm
Closed:
12-1 Mon-Fri. 12.-12.30 Sat and Sun
Shut New Years Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Tynwald Day.
The Site may have to close due to weather conditions or operating problems.
Site Standards
1. In the interest of safety and the smooth operation of the Site members of the public are requested to follow the advice given by the staff.
2. Children (under 16) and animals should remain within a vehicle at all times.
3. Articles in the Reuse Area may be taken by the Public for their own use staff cannot be held responsible for saving items.
4. Sealed bags/containers may be checked by the Operatives to verify their contents. The Site is not licensed to take certain waste types.
5. Any one arriving in Commercial type vehicle/car with or without a business logo on is requested to report to a Member of staff. Commercial waste deposited at this Site will incur a charge
6. Excess loads from Domestic Properties e.g. DIY/green waste may incur a charge.
The Site cannot take,

Food waste, elm wood, tyres, asbestos, chemicals, gas bottles, fibreglass, clinical waste, cooking oil, fire extinguishers, fireworks, ammunition.
Ask staff or ring WOMU on 696540 for advice on alternative routes.
Fridges/Freezers accepted with cash or a cheque made out to Manx Waste Solutions. (£15, £20 £40 depending on size)
Green Waste is composted. This service is free except for Commercial Gardeners or if you are bringing in regular large loads i.e. from tree felling or a garden clearance in which case a charge may be applied. Please separate, place in appropriate area and empty out of bags. Do not leave metal, stone, plastics etc. in this Bay.
Noxious weeds eg Cushag, palm leaves or trunks and small roots to go in the Burnable Waste area.
If you have large roots or grass sods to dispose of please seek out a member of staff for advice.
Waste Oil
Engine oil can be left next to the Metano container and the Operatives will dispose of it in due course no petrol, diesel, chemicals, cooking oil etc. or large drums please
Recycling Area
Browsing limited to 10 minutes
(Closed Sunday from 1pm and at other times if deemed necessary e.g. during Site Maintenance)
This Area is for unwanted items that may be of use to someone else they are taken away as seen and are free.
The Board cannot be held responsible for faulty items and recommend all things taken are checked over by a suitably qualified person.
Please consider where you leave your car if you wish to browse a time limit is strictly adhered to at busy times.
A range of old tools/ sewing machines are collected for refurbishment and then sent overseas for aid purposes

Site Rules
1. In the interest of safety, members of the public are asked to note that the Operatives on the Site have full authority.
2. Any person deemed to be causing a nuisance will be asked to leave the Site and must comply with that request.
3. Children and animals, must at all times, remain inside the vehicle they arrived in.
4. To avoid misunderstanding permission should be obtained from the Operatives before removing articles from the Site.
5. Any item removed from the Site is done so at the individuals own risk, the Board cannot be responsible if the said item is faulty or dangerous, this particularly applies to electrical items or children’s toys. It is the recommendation of the Board that all items undergo a safety check by a qualified person.
6. No sealed bags/containers should be opened, except by the Operatives to check on its contents.
7. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB ON OR OVER THE RUBBISH IN THE BAYS NOR THROW ITEMS.
8. When parking your vehicle please back into the bays follow the one way system and co-operate with any instructions given by the Operatives. Ensure your vehicle does not cause an obstruction or danger to other users of the site.
9. Any one arriving in Commercial type vehicle/car with business logo on, should report to an Operative even if the items in the vehicle are from home, this avoids any misunderstanding as to its source.
All Users enter the Site at their own risk. It may be necessary to cordon off areas of the site, for Safety reasons, i.e. whilst loading the skips, please do not enter these areas under any circumstances.
The Site cannot take, (This list may change to comply with legislation and the Incinerator coming on line) Food waste, elm wood, tyres, asbestos, gas bottles, clinical waste, cooking oil, fire extinguishers, fireworks, ammunition, please avoid leaving loose plastic bags.

ALL commercial users must be registered
Commercial Gardeners and domestic gardeners doing large jobs will be charged.
Commercial Users please apply to the Southern Civic Amenity Site Board c/o the Site if you if you wish to register. The Operatives are within their rights if they suspect a load is Commercial and you are not registered to turn you away. All Commercial Rubbish must be paid for.
Remain in your vehicle on the weighbridge; after disembarking your ticket will be issued to you in the vehicle.
